Summer Sanctum

On the Z-bend River Trail in Kalbarri National Park this ancient passageway provides a cool reprieve from the unrelenting summer sun. The shade cast between its cool walls, untouched by the heat that permeates everything else, creates a sanctum that is hard to leave.

This work was inspired by the remarkable calming effect of this place, its beautiful colours in the exposed layers of rock and a desire to portray its powerful, emotional impression. An impression of an ancient, sacred space that seems to slow time and compels you to take in a deep, restorative breath.
