Quiet the night that creeps descending

On limpid waters mirrored with the days

Reflections,

And soft the petal falls drifting in lights

Last glow,

Tracing luminous margins on grey tinged

Clouds that float across pearlescent skies.

While mournful is the curlews’ cry that beckons

In the darkness and stills the daylights’ clamour

with an inky velvet cloak that wraps gently

round the lotus fringed waters of the Kakadu plains
