Artwork Description

“A warm summer’s morning – Looking toward Coppin’s Lookout” by Geof Pearce.

This painting is the outcome of having taken the delightful sandy walk from the car park at the end of St Pauls Road in a westerly direction along the cliff tops overlooking Bass Strait.

On a crystal clear, warm, windless day the views and colours are spectacular as you look along the ocean beach toward the Point Lonsdale Lighthouse.

This part of the rugged coastline reveals Sphinx Rock and the London Bridge formations but also the important coastal sand dunes. In the centre of my painting, I have captured the fabulous summer morning light on the rocky bluff that forms the western side of the   Sorrento surf beach and the recognisable Coppin’s Point Lookout.

The clear morning light, the stunning blues of the Bass Strait waters, the amphitheatre shaped surf beach, the various blues and greens of the dense vegetation and the brown ochre colours of the wind-blown eroded cliff line ensured this was a landscape I would enjoy painting – and I did.
